The Associate Environmental Manager position is a developmental role in which the successful candidate will learn about Nucor and its processes to move into an Environmental Manager position at Nucor.
Candidates must be willing to relocate for future advancement opportunities within Nucor.
Candidates may start at one of the following locations:
Auburn, NY, Kankakee, IL, Jackson, MS, or Birmingham, AL.
How you will impact Nucor:
Division Compliance:
Responsible for supporting the division's environmental and sustainability strategy with a focus on building relationships with operations/ maintenance/ administrative departments and continuous cost reduction.
Oversee systems and procedures and maintains appropriate files to ensure permit compliance; determine working order of environmental control systems; and detect potential problems.
Keep the General Manager informed of any changing regulations or permit conditions.
Supervise the air quality, water quality, and waste programs to include:
the surveillance, storage, disposal, and recordkeeping programs.
Lead the division in implementing company environmental policy and in developing sustainable, innovative, and cost-effective solutions.
Recommend and prioritize lists of environmental projects (capital, maintenance, or housekeeping) which need to be addressed to meet changing regulatory conditions, or to ensure the continued environmental compliance of the facility.
Assist as part of the team in developing and implementing large capital environmental projects.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Monitor for instances of environmental concerns with regard to division activities (e.
g.
, excessive noise, contractor activities, and unusual discharges) and arrange for corrective action where needed.
Keep the leadership team informed of pertinent existing environmental laws and regulations.
Participate with all other division functions by sharing technical expertise, support, and specialized knowledge and skills to achieve division goals and objectives.
This position requires frequent contact with government agency personnel to facilitate environmental compliance, negotiate permits and settlement agreements, coordinate inspections, and build a relationship of trust and respect.
Occasional contact with elected officials and political committees is necessary in representing division accomplishments and future requirements.
Minimum
Qualifications:
At least five years' experience in environmental compliance Demonstrated ability to lead both internal and external teams in a timely and cost-effective manner with focus on attaining goals.
Demonstrated understanding of environmental laws pertaining to industry and the ability to manage an EMS to satisfy regulatory requirements and company objectives.
Solid understanding of environmental compliance, permitting and ability to serve as a liaison for State and Federal environmental agencies.
Objective reasoning, professional public image, persuasive speaker, and the ability to communicate well with a variety of audiences.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Previous steelmaking or heavy industry environmental compliance experience including permitting.
ISO 14001 or environmental management system experience 4-year degree in engineering or related environmental, safety or health field.
Registered environmental credentials and/or professional engineering license.
Compensation Offered:
Compensation is a combination of base pay, bonus and profit sharing.
Compensation range is $150,000 - $200,000 based on years of experience and education.
